Coffee Box Espresso, Darling Harbour
Monday, October 24, 2016Bright and early every morning, Coffee Box Espresso opens its business to the many people making their way around the city. In it's great location just before the Harbourside bridge to Pyrmont, there is sure to be many passerbys stopping for a quick coffee or breakfast before they go about their way. Those who stop are in for a treat as the coffee bean of choice is Toby's Estate, while the display cabinets feature a range of fresh and on-site baked goodies. They also serve savoury options up such as sandwiches, wraps and rolls. The store itself is just as the name says.. a "box". It is compact and around the size of a kiosk, making it the perfect place to make a pit stop. There are also a few stools situated around the store making it suited for those who have a bit more time and prefer to sit down to enjoy their food/drinks.
It is thanks to Aura over at Sydney Public Relations that I had scored myself an invite to the wonder that is Coffee Box Espresso. This makes it my first dine-in foodie invite to anywhere so naturally I was excited and nervous all at once. But with the obvious name resounding over the ears of a coffee lover such as myself, I 110% would not say no to this one.
I invited Francis to come along with me this sunny day and we get to Coffee Box by noon which is technically still breakfast time for us. We were advised to ask for Vasili upon arrival but as he was out for the moment we arrived, his cousin who also worked in the store happily took care of us and offered us drinks off the menu. Friendly service!
I love the neat and red/black theme of the store that matches with their logo. All of the staff working also wear the Coffee Box t-shirt which I feel adds such a sense of unity and community.
One large coffee please~ |
I'm told that all the goodies are baked fresh every morning, on-site and ready to go! Delicious! |
There is something so much more special when the coffee cup has a logo on it :) |
Francis and I choose to sit on the side of the coffee box store where we can have a peak right into the kitchen as well as a view of Darling Harbour from the Pyrmont bridge.
Francis': Hot Chocolate $4
He doesn't drink coffee (thenwhyareyouhereamIright) so thankfully there's always hot chocolate for someone as absurd as he hahaha. He said that this hot chocolate had nothing to fault - no grittiness and pleasantly chocolately :) Once again he finished it before I even had a chance to try..
Flat White $4
This is my current coffee of choice! I really enjoyed this and would say that it's exactly what I want my coffee to always taste like. It was aromatic as well as smooth and velvety. I went with no sugar today and found it was so much better at providing a good caffeine-hit with no sugary-downside. I also have to mention that I love the plate and cup this was served on. It's sleek and feels very nice and matte. An unintended complement to the flat white.
Toasted Banana Bread w/ walnuts & butter
Served warm and toasted with a spread of butter melting over the top, this banana bread was so magical! It was so delicious, fluffy and moist. Also texturally-interesting thanks to the addition of yummy walnuts. Not dry or like the overly oily and sugary banana breads you can buy from the shops. All good stuff here!
By the time we're digging into our breakfast treat, Vasili comes over and introduces himself to us. As the owner of Coffee Box Espresso, he had so many interesting things to share and I find that he is a very easy and friendly person to making conversation with. When asked what lead him to opening up this coffee stop, he shares that his parents also owned a cafe so this is what came naturally to him. Even after finishing a degree at university, this was the path he decided for himself. Definitely a bit of morning inspiration here! :)
He asks if we want to try anything else and Francis and I opt for another baked goodie; the muffin! We're confirmed by Vasili that everything is baked fresh and on-site each morning, but I've also read that Vasili's mother insists on making the batter for the different muffins each day so this makes me want to order one.
Orange and Chocolate Muffin
I thought that this muffin was out of this world because it was THAT good! I've really never had a muffin like this before. It was subtly sweet, extremely fragrant, and soft & tender. Absolutely to die for. From the first bite I knew this was going to be good. I pretty much ate the entire thing and it left me wanting more. In fact I'll probably go back to try more muffins. Mama truly knows best!
Coffee Box Espresso was such a lovely experience for me and I'm sure it is for just about everybody who stops by too! I really enjoyed my coffee and the baked treats. If this is somewhere you pass by then I highly recommend you also stop by! If not then I believe this would also be fun to visit. A great idea I just had would to be getting a coffee and some food to go and enjoying it by the harbour.
All in all, thank you so much to Vasili and the Coffee Box team who took care of Francis and I, as well as thank you to Aura at Sydney Public Relations for the invitation :) xx
TL;DR:

It is not everyone's business to write such a great post, one person in a million can write such a beautiful post and you are one of those millions. I hope that you will write more beautiful posts in life and also hope that you will keep climbing the ladder of achievement in your life, very few people do this but I have full hope from you.
