Ahhh, Milperra! I actually went to high school not too far from todays cafe location so aside from the high school, the WSU campus, our beloved wedges shop, and the industrial warehouse jungle - I am very surprised to discover a cool, trendy and local cafe in the mix.
From finding this place after doing a quick "brunch places near me" search on Google, I immediately set out to start the weekend at Four Little Foxes.
From the outside, this looks like a strip of shops that only the locals would know to hit up. However its Four Little Foxes that immediately stands out because of the crowds waiting outside for their turn at getting a table. I was super excited during waiting because crowds for a small cafe usually equals good food and coffee! Especially when its in a little suburb as far from the CBD as this one.
Many people are in and out for their food and coffee but others range from friends and family catching up and enjoying this local gem!
When its finally our turn to get a table, we're led to the back corner table which is very cosy. The cafe itself is small but feels much larger with the crisp white paint, minimal decor and blend of bright and soft lighting.
The counter has a display of really yummy sounding treats but after the wait we are just ready for the mains straight up.
We make our coffee orders first and they arrive at our table fairly quickly. Unfortunately the food is a much longer wait. I usually don't finish my drink before the meal arrives but here I did so it was slightly disappointing.
Cappucino and Flat White
When our food finally did arrive, my goodness did it look GOOD!!!! We were both so ready to dig in but then Patrick spotted my camera coming out from under the table and hehe.. what's a few minutes more am I right?
"Pepper Pig"
Crumbled milk bun served with Roasted Bell Pepper relish, Slow Cooked Pulled Pork, Sauteed Silverbeet leaf, Soft Poached Egg and Jalapeno Hollaindaise
First things first, even though the poached egg didn't have the gooey yolk porn I was hoping for in the shot above - this dish was still so delicious! While my main was the sweet french toast below, Patrick's savoury choice was completely different and completely welcome. We had a good laugh at the name when looking at the menu and in the end decided it was worth a try!
The roasted bell pepper sauce was amazing and I loved the generosity of the serve. They clearly are aware that the sauce is so more-ish. The crumbed milk bun was also so cool and added a great texture to the soft pulled pork and silverbeet. You think you wouldn't need any more sauce with this dish but then along comes the jalapeno hollandaise and it adds such a great creamy punch to all.
"Pardon My French"
Foxy French Toast with Passionfruit curd, maple mascarpone, candied walnuts, seasonal fruit, topped with 100% Canadian Maple syrup $18.50
I LOVE that this is described as a foxy french toast. I would say this is the best french toast I have ever had in my life and it's the one thing that made the wait soooo worth it. The french toast itself is made with what seems like brioche bread and it's not too sickeningly soggy but instead, very flavourful and nice with perfect crisp on the surfaces. The passionfruit curd was easily the highlight to this toast and it made everything so uplifting and exotic. Amongst all the sweet components here, the passionfruit curd lent its unique tartness in the best way possible. And lastly, that maple mascarpone is heavenly! It was so creamy, not too sweet, surprisingly refreshing and had the toasty maple flavour.
Definitely try the Pardon My French if you go, I highly recommend it!!!
Four Little Foxes, despite all the waiting we had to do on this day was still amazing and we loved discovering such a great cafe nearby. If you're in the area, you HAVE to check it out. And if you're not, then I do still recommend it and suggest you add it to your eats list! 🍴
Please note this review is based on a dining experience I had before any COVID measures. However I am confident the Four Little Foxes team will be taking all the measures they need to ensure your experience here is safe and enjoyable. Of course, we all must do our part when we go out to dine as well 😊
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and remember to support your local businesses where you can! xx
